The Hero of Time
The Hero of Time is based on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, but it also borrows from other Zelda games as well. Read more...
Sherlock Holmes
Sherlock Holmes, brought to us by Guy Ritchie, is perhaps best described as an action movie with a little something extra, as the trailer and cast would leave you to believe. Read more...
Up in the Air
George Clooney dunked - the backboard shattered and they had to stop the game. There was glass everywhere. This doesn't mean the movie wasn't predictable, but his performance was masterful. Read more...
On DVD: Away We Go
John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph star in Away We Go, a story about a 30 something couple looking for a new place to live to have their first child during the 6th month of pregnancy, and its good stuff. Read more...
On DVD: Transformers Revenge of the Fallen
A lot of folks told us they didn't care for Transformers Revenge of the Fallen despite being big fans of the first Transformers movie. We're struggling with that, but we'll do our best to piece it together. Read more...
On DVD: City Of Ember
11:27 AM 1/23/2010
City of Ember is a post apocalyptic tale that rarely pauses to explain itself, not even in the opening origin scene explaining the premise. Read more...
On DVD: Green Lantern First Flight
Green Lantern First Flight isn't really developed well enough for adults and is too violent and profane for children... so obviously, we really enjoyed it. Read more...
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies comes roaring out of the gate with little development and straight to action formula. Read more...
The Men Who Stare at Goats
If even half of the stuff you'll see and hear in The Men Who Stare at Goats is true, that's way too much. Read more...
A Christmas Carol
We saw this new digital adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, directed and screenplay by Robert Zemeckis in 3D, which was pretty neat in IMAX, particularly when it snowed, which was often. Read more...
The Informant!
Don't believe the marketing - The Informant! isn't a farce, National Lampoon-eque comedy. Read more...
Zombieland
See this film with someone you love - oh wait, sorry, that's from our draft review of 'A Christmas Carol.' Its OK to see Zombieland with someone you love, because they do sneak a little romantic subplot in there, but for the most part, Zombieland is a good popcorn eating, zombie smashing, its-violent-and-its-hilarious time. Read more...
Cloudy with a chance of meatballs
This clever film about an inventor at the end of his rope isn't just a movie for children - in fact, the best jokes are probably over the kiddies' heads. Cloudy with a chance of meatballs dazzles with its brilliant color scheme and snappy dialogue. Read more...
Capitalism: A Love Story
Capitalism: A Love Story is Michael Moore's take on the market crash of 2008, but it's so much more.
Movie Review: In the Loop
In the Loop stars - well, save for James Gandolfini, a troop of British and American actors you've never heard of who all do a nice job. Read more... or check out more from our Movie Reviews Blog
Public Enemies
We'll keep this short because frankly, we just don't feel that this movie deserves much coverage.
Funny People
Judd Apatow, the famed director of the 30 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up has taken some criticism from both his fans and critics alike for his new film, Funny People, getting a bit too real on them. Read more... or check out more from our Movie Reviews Blog
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
It's difficult to separate the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince from the novel, but we'll do our best. We feel that this was not the smoothest of adaptations and with so much left out, it would be a bit difficult to follow. Read more... or check out more from our Movie Reviews Blog
Up
Up may be an animated film from Disney Pixar, but we don't think it's suitable for children under 10 - at best! Read more... or check out more from our Movie Reviews Blog
Year One
Year One takes a satirical look at life as seen by Zed (Jack Black) and Oh (Michael Cera - you know, from Superbad), two men trying to make their way in life as part of a primitive tribe of hunters and gatherers. Read more...
The Da Vinci Code
Get a tune up on Dr. Robert Langdon before Angels and Demons. Read more...
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
You know its almost summer time when the comic book movies start rolling out, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine probably won't disappoint most fans - at least the casual ones. The opening might be a bit shaky as the use of children in action movies is almost always ill advised, but they wrapped that segment of the movie up quickly. Read more...
Star Trek
Star Trek has rebooted, if we may say so, in proper Star Trek fashion. But we don't want to give away the plot, so lets focus on some generals - or Captains, in this case. (Eh, that's terrible.) Read more...
I Love You Man
I Love You Man is a decent little comedy staring Paul Rudd, Rashida Jones, Jason Segel and Andy Samberg. Rudd and Segel make a nice team and the movie gets off to a bit of a slow start as the plot grinds to a start, but once they get out of first gear, its smooth to the finish. Read more...
The Spirit
If you took one part Dick Tracy, one part Batman starring Adam West and threw in a whole bunch of violence, you'd probably get The Spirit. Oh yeah, add a pinch of the dad from The Wonder Years and season to taste... Read more...
On DVD:
Milk
Sean Penn does it again in Milk, the story of Harvey Milk, a homosexual running for office in San Francisco during the 1970s, when open campaigning against homosexuals was in full swing, and not just on issues like marriage. Sean Penn, who always immerses himself in every role, dominates the screen as Harvey Milk. Read more...
On DVD:
Doubt
Meryl Streep dunks over Philip Seymour Hoffman in Doubt, a drama centered around a nun and a priest who both work at a Catholic Elementary school. To say much more, we think would spoil the plot, and this movie is so good that we don't want to do this. Bad job by the company that released this film; this movie should have been marketed a lot harder, its a great film. Read more...
On DVD:
The Day the Earth Stood Still
It's not just a title, folks: the actors, your brain and the very story do often stand still in The Day the Earth Stood Still. Read more...
Coraline
If you like stop motion, you'll enjoy this one - its very well done. Coraline is more or less ignored by her parents and bored with her life in her new home... until she finds a parallel world through small door hidden behind the wallpaper in her living room. Wackiness ensues! Read more...
Watchmen
We enjoyed this tripped out look at an alternate universe during the 1980s, but its probably not an especially accessible movie to those who never read comic books - the comic book people love to write about alternate realities and 'what if' stories, and this is definitely a 'what if' story. Read more...
On DVD:
Quantum of Solace
Daniel Craig returns as James Bond in Quantum of Solace, the sequel to Casino Royal. Like most Bond films, the plot is difficult to follow but the movie is pushed forward by Craig's performance and the stunning action sequences. Read more...
Rocknrolla
Ah yes, if you've seen one Guy Ritchie movie, you've seen them all... but, that doesn't mean Rocknrolla isn't 'rockin' good fun!' Sorry; wanted to pretend this was the New York Post for a second. Read more...
Slumdog Millionaire
Slumdog Millionaire is the story of Jamal, Madhur and their fellow orphan Latika in an emerging India as Jamal recounts the story of his life which revolves around answering questions on the game show, Who wants to be a Millionaire?. We admit, Millionaire's involvement is part of the reason this film didn't get a five from us. Read more...
Gran Torino
Clilnt Eastwood dispenses his own brand of justice that we've all come to know and love in Gran Torino. You know how it is; you mess with Clint, well, he's tough, he can handle it. You mess with his neighbors, teenagers who are not tough, well, you're bound to make him mad. And that's a mistake. Read more...
The Reader
Its hard to give much of a summary of this movie without giving too much away, so we'll only talk about the first act here: After World War II, a teenage boy has a relationship with an older woman in Germany. OK, that's our summary sentence in the style of TV guide. Kate Winslet really rocks the house in this film. Read more...
Valkyrie
Bryan Singer and a star studded cast bring the famous 'July 20' attack on Adolf Hitler's life to the big screen in Valkyrie. Here's some star power for ya: Tom Cruise, Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Terence Stamp, Eddie Izzard and others... yes, Eddie Izzard! No heels, though... bummer. Read more...
W.
This film won't satisfy Democrats, who'll say Stone was too soft on Bush (that's hilarious, by the way) and Republicans, who'll feel that Stone took some cheap shots at the commander in chief's intelligence during a presidential election campaign, even if it's not Bush's.

The Cohen brothers strike again with their witty and sleuth filled comedy, Burn After Reading. Read more...

Futurama is back with another feature, and we're so pleased. Oh yes, so pleased! Read more...
The Incredible Hulk
This movie wasn't especially incredible, but it didn't move like a rusty gate, and that's more than we can say
for 2003's The Hulk. Read more...
Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Strap on your swords, kiddies - it's time to go back to Narnia. And this time, they'll be no skimping on the violence. Read more...
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
We heard a lot of bad reviews from the media and friends, but we maintain that none of them have sat through an
Indiana Jones movie since the last one came out. Read more...
On DVD: Strange Wilderness
What a piece of crap.
Despite a strong cast whose credentials inspired us to site through this, it's simply a road movie gone wrong. Read more...
Iron Man
After seeing 88 minutes, we probably would have cheered for Iron Man if Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark took his lab assistant robot to the park for a game of fetch. Read more...
88 Minutes
Worst. Movie. EVER.
What was Al Pacino thinking? He's nearly 70, surely he has tons of cash... why would he make this film? Read more...

Movie Reviews Rating Scheme
1 = incomprehensible movie: like sitting in traffic, going to the dentist or watching Hulk Hogan's 'Suburban Commando'
2 = bad movie: the plot feels like a James Bond movie or the jokes aren't funny... but at least you weren't sitting along in the dark drinking that cheap vodka brand that comes in a plastic bottle
3 = average movie: you fee like maybe you've seen this movie before. but at least the movie made sense
4 = good movie: better than most movies, but no one is going to study this movie for hundreds of years
5 = excellent movie: you'd sell your grandmother's false teeth for a chance to see this movie
Our Take On Reviewing Movies
Watching movies is great fun, and writing movie reviews is a close second.
Our life long addiction with movies includes all genres: horror movies, action
movies, fantasy movies, drama movies, disney movies, indie movies and more movies!
We'll even sneak in a documentary or two. We also take a look at
movie trailers
whenever we get a chance. You might say we're a little movie crazy, but this
doesn't translate to movie stars or celebrity worship - we do our best to ignore
what's allegedly going on in movie stars lives, and we strongly recommend everyone
else does the same... unless you hear your favorite movie star has been storing
their fan club members in plastic bags next to the frozen peas. But, we can be
loyal to a particular movie star if they've wowed us in the past. Al Pacino,
for example, used to carry this cache, but, after 88 minutes, we're a little leery.
We know everyone rips on Keanu Reeves for being wooden, but we don't mind him so
much. Sure, the last Matrix was a bit crumy, but whatcha gonna do? He has a
nice everyman quality that works for him.
Our movies reviews contain a movie
review score as seen in the Movie Reviews Rating Scheme above, a review of the movie,
some helpful links with more information about the movie and a video featuring the
trailer of the movie.
More Movie Topics From MyTristate.us
We're obsessed with movies, so it doesn't end here with our movie reviews - we've also set up a blog on movie theaters, tickets & schedules, where we'll blog about different movie theaters and different websites to check movies times on or buy movie tickets. We're also interested in renting movies, an industry that seems to be forever evolving before our eyes, and we can't help but wonder if buying movies at the store will someday become a thing of the past. Of course, we love to watch movies online at home, but there are so many other ways to watch movies, be it online, via video game console, hand held device, so on... And the only good thing about being early for a movie at the movie theater are the movie trailers, which seem to go on for a good 10 to 20 minutes, depending on how big the movie release is, so our observations on movie trailers won't be left out!
